This is trainer Amber Moore of Ollie Lawrence Personal Trainer Manchester and this is my first blog post.
Ollie has asked his trainers to give their view on certain areas of health and fitness, from finding time to train through to nutrition and progress of their clients and themselves as everyone continues to grow and improve.
How do you get from where you are now to where you want to be?
This is a question I often ask myself, whether it’s regarding my own body goals, growing my business, or just managing to have all the kids dressed, fed and in school on time in the morning. The answer is the same for all life situations. -Action.
If you want to get from where you are now to where you want to be, you have to move! Thinking about it, hoping something will happen achieves nothing. No one is going to do it for you. I learnt this myself a while ago. Once upon a time… 3 babies, no job, no car, no body confidence was where I was. I was always active, even right through my first pregnancy. A set of twins soon followed and I was shattered! Literally a walking zombie. Not to mention busy with no time to think, never mind being conscious of my appearance! I’d gone from being in the best physical condition of my life, to fat and knackered in less than 18 months. Obviously caring for babies was a priority, so I didn’t put too much pressure on myself, trusting that, in time I would return to my ‘Normal self’. This was a huge lesson in practicing patience.
What I wanted was to be in a position to be able to provide for my family by working, learn to drive and not only get my body back the way it was pre-pregnancy, more so to increase my energy with correct nutrition information and exercise which in turn leads to better well-being all round, so everyone benefits.
But where do you start?
At Ollie Lawrence Personal Trainer Manchester we teach everyone how to take Baby- steps accumulating in one big end goal. Bite size pieces are the most recommended way of changing your lifestyle and habits. Nothing happens overnight and neither should it, enjoy the journey. I knew where I wanted to be, but wasn’t quite sure how to get there. It seemed miles away!
“Where there’s a will, there’s a way” is a common saying we use at Ollie’s Manchester Gym, all it takes is dedication and commitment to achieve your health and fitness goals. If you want to do it, you’ll do it, you’ll make the time. Employing a trainer is one way of ensuring that you get your weekly fix of fitness as you have to turn up !
I can remember the times when I’d drop the toddler off at nursery and trundle the twin babies in the buggy down to the gym, pop them in crèche and do a quick hour before heading back for nursery pick up. Whenever this wasn’t possible due to weather/half term/poorly kids etc. I’d dust off the workout DVDs, just to get the blood flowing. I made time. Not only did this preserve my mental wellbeing, it gave me a determination and work ethic that transcended to all other areas.
I discovered role models. It’s easy to look at people on fitness sites and magazines and say “It’s ok for them, they’re fit.” Or “Yeah, but I have kids/work/house to take care of.”
Two ladies who particularly stood out to me were Ashley Horner and Jayne Tingle. Every time I tried giving myself the excuse of, I’m too tired …I have more kids than hands etc. I’d think of them, where they’ve got themselves through hard work. I’d give my head a wobble and crack on.
This has brought me to where I am today, helping people balance that healthy lifestyle working at Ollie Lawrence Personal Trainer Manchester. My journey has made me physically and mentally stronger, I’m proud of what I have achieved so far, to say I work with fantastic clients every day and a great team of forward thinking trainers at Ollie’s Manchester Gym.
Change is a good thing. Change means progress. It might take baby steps, but trusting the process and learning along the way is invaluable. I’m looking forward to what’s in store in the next chapter not dreading what might happen, I’m the captain of my own ship and I can choose my destination, you can too! We all have choices to make and the new you is so easy to achieve if you put your mind to it, the new you is just around the corner. “If you aren’t sure of which direction you’re heading, just turn around, look how far you’ve come…and carry on.”
